by TBC

The Economic Diplomacy Coordinating Group of Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation convened a meeting to assess the progress of its economic diplomacy initiatives over the past three years and gather suggestions for shaping the Economic Diplomacy Strategy spanning from 2024 to 2028. This pivotal assembly took place on March 27, 2024, at the Sun & Moon Riverside Hotel, steered by Dr. CHHIV Yiseang, Secretary of State, representing the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, His Excellency SOK Chenda Sophea.

The gathering brought together over 150 distinguished attendees, including leaders from the Ministry, chiefs of Cambodian missions abroad, and delegates from relevant governmental departments and the business community. The event presented a comprehensive review of the achievements and challenges faced in implementing the country’s economic diplomacy efforts, with particular attention to bolstering trade, attracting foreign direct investment, and promoting cultural exchanges along with tourism and sports, which have been the linchpins of the nation’s international economic relations in recent years.

Her Excellency KHIEV Sophany, Secretary of State of the Ministry, presided over the session. She facilitated an engaging discussion that looked back on the milestones achieved and encouraged dialogue between public agencies and the private sector aimed at propelling Cambodia’s economic interests on the global stage. The discussions also concentrated on pooling insights that would contribute to the formulation of the forthcoming Economic Diplomacy Strategy for the 2024-2028 period.

In the later part of the day, the Economic Diplomacy Coordinating Group also organized a Networking Session. This event provided a vital opportunity for the heads of Cambodian foreign missions to engage directly with members of the business sphere, fostering a tighter collaborative relationship. The session acted as a springboard to reinforce partnerships and examine new avenues for economic collaboration.

Moreover, this session served as an exhibition stage for Cambodian businesses to display their wares, aiming to widen their international reach and increase the export potential of their products. The drive to showcase local offerings to the international community is part of the broader strategy to elevate Cambodia’s economic profile and forge productive international linkages. Through these efforts, Cambodia is dedicated to advancing its position in the global economy, eyeing a future of sustained growth and enhanced international cooperation.
