Phnom Penh – On February 20th of this year, the Kingdom of Cambodia and the State of Israel have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in the fields of education, youth, and culture. The agreement was signed by H.E. Professor Hang Chuon Naron, Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth, and Sport, and H.E. Orna Sagiv, Israel’s Ambassador to Cambodia.
This MoU signifies a strengthening of bilateral relations and opens avenues for mutual growth and development.
For many years, hundreds of Cambodian students participated in agricultural internships in Israel every year, gaining valuable experience and contributing to the development of Cambodia’s agricultural sector.
Building upon this successful collaboration, the new MoU introduces the opportunity for Cambodian students, some thanks to scholarships, to attend Israel’s best technological universities, renowned worldwide for their excellence and innovation. This initiative aims to empower young Cambodians with advanced skills and knowledge, contributing to the nation’s technological advancement.
The Cambodia – Israel Chamber of Commerce (CICC), under the leadership of its president, M. Moran Hadad, plays a pivotal role in this collaboration. Established to enhance economic and technological ties between the two nations, the CICC is committed to supporting initiatives that drive Cambodia’s development. By facilitating access to Israel’s educational resources and expertise, the CICC seeks to enrich Cambodia’s educational landscape, drawing from Israel’s successful models, such as excellence tests and innovative teaching methodologies.
Israel’s Gifted Education System
Israel’s approach to identifying and nurturing gifted students offers valuable insights for educational development:
Early Identification: as early as the second grade, Israel implements a systematic process to recognize gifted students at a young age, ensuring timely and appropriate educational interventions.
Diverse Program Formats: The country offers various program structures, including special classes within regular schools and one-day enrichment programs, catering to different learning preferences and needs.
Comprehensive Enrichment: The curriculum extends beyond traditional subjects, incorporating areas like robotics and foreign languages, promoting a well-rounded education.
This excellence program helps Israel create the necessary conditions for its technological growth and innovation and is a key pillar in its capacity to play a dominant role in technological progress on the biggest stages.
