Cambodia Seeks to Enhance Investment Opportunities Through Engagement with Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor

by TBC

The government of Cambodia has recently taken active measures to magnify the country’s attractiveness as an investment destination. At the forefront of this initiative, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet conducted a meaningful discussion with the Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do, Lee Cheol-woo, highlighting strategies and policies devised to foster an environment favorable to investment inflows.

The meeting took place at the Peace Palace on the morning of July 29, where Prime Minister Hun Manet extended an invitation to the governor to aid in amplifying the nation’s appeal to investors in his significant capacity.

Lee Cheol-woo, during the assembly, lauded the deepening of diplomatic ties between Cambodia and South Korea, which has been solidified in the form of a “strategic partnership,” illustrating the growing connectivity and cooperation the two states share. The governor expressed gratitude towards the Royal Government for its continuing exemplary cooperation efforts and coordination, particularly noting the Gyeongsangbuk-do delegation’s humanitarian actions within Cambodia. Additionally, he made mention of the “Angkor-Kyung You Exhibition” held in Siem Reap in 2006, a cultural event that celebrated the relationship between the regions.

Governor Lee conveyed his commitment to bolster and extend collaboration with Cambodia’s various ministries and institutions, acknowledged the province he represents as a culturally rich region with significant economic prospects, and conversed with Samdech Thipadei about the intention to build upon these existing partnerships.

In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed gratitude towards the Korean government and the citizens of Gyeongsangbuk-do for their involvement and support in various humanitarian projects, which include the provision of complimentary medical services to the Cambodian populace. He commended the formalization of a partnership between Gyeongsangbuk-do and Kampong Thom through a memorandum of understanding.

The discussions also ventured into topics of broadening and reinforcing cooperative endeavors across multiple sectors, including investment, tourism, cultural exchange, vocational training in healthcare, and fruitful engagement in agriculture and rural development based on South Korea’s successful New Village Project (Saemaul Undong).

This crucial interaction between Cambodian leadership and the Gyeongsangbuk-do governorship presents a clear signal that Cambodia is more than willing to welcome investment and mutually beneficial economic ventures while nurturing lasting international alliances that promote development and prosperity.
