PHNOM PENH — Bilateral merchandise trade between Cambodia and Vietnam reached nearly $7.8 billion during the first seven months of 2026, marking a 10.3% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.
The trade figures underscore growing economic and cross-border commercial integration between the two neighbouring ASEAN members.
Expanding Cross-Border Trade & Economic Ties
According to diplomatic and commerce assessments, bilateral economic and investment cooperation remains a foundational pillar of Cambodia-Vietnam relations.
- Sustained Growth: Trade turnover approached the $7.8 billion mark between January and July 2026, driven by rising demand in regional supply chains and cross-border agricultural and manufactured goods trade.
- Regional Market Position: Vietnam consistently ranks among Cambodia’s top trading partners globally and serves as its largest trade partner within the ASEAN bloc.
- Long-Term Strategic Target: Both nations continue to leverage bilateral frameworks, the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) to advance toward their bilateral trade target of $20 billion.
Commodity Flows and Investment Cooperation
Major trade flows between the two nations encompass agricultural commodities—including raw cashew nuts, rubber, and cassava exported from Cambodia—alongside Vietnamese exports of steel, petroleum products, construction materials, textiles, and consumer goods.
Diplomatic representatives reaffirmed their shared commitment to the spirit of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability,” pledging continued support to facilitate trade logistics and boost cross-border investment flows.
