by Surya Narayan

In a groundbreaking move to uplift the aspirations of Cambodia’s younger generation, Prime Minister Hun Manet launched a transformative social security scheme on health care coupled with an innovative technical and vocational training program. Addressing the launching ceremony with fervor, Prime Minister Hun Manet passionately encouraged the youth to participate in skill training programs, emphasizing the pivotal role of technical skills in shaping a promising future.

During his address, Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted the importance of individual effort, urging the younger generation to take charge of their destinies. He noted that while the government and guardians play supportive roles, it is essential for young individuals to proactively seek out opportunities to enhance their skills. “Times are flying fast, and if we dedicate a few months or a year to improve our skills, we can open doors to a multitude of choices for our future,” emphasized the Prime Minister.

Acknowledging the fast-paced nature of the world, Prime Minister Hun Manet underscored the urgency for youth to focus on technical skills training, which he believes will not only broaden their horizons but also contribute to national development.

The premier went on to instruct the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training to collaborate with other ministries and institutions, as well as engage relevant partners, to disseminate information about the training opportunities. He emphasized the importance of reaching out to poor and vulnerable families engaged in both formal and informal economies, urging them to enroll in the program.

In a nod to modernity, Prime Minister Hun Manet recommended the application of a digital enrollment program to streamline the process and facilitate the target group’s access to this invaluable initiative.

The technical and vocational training program, designed for 1.5 million young people from disadvantaged backgrounds across the nation, stands out for its commitment to inclusivity. Notably, participants are exempted from tuition fees and receive a monthly stipend of KHR280,000 (approximately $70), along with other benefits. This visionary approach ensures that financial constraints do not hinder the pursuit of skill development, empowering the youth to contribute meaningfully to Cambodia’s socio-economic landscape.

Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet has taken a monumental step towards nurturing the potential of the nation’s youth through this innovative training program. By emphasizing the importance of technical skills and providing accessible opportunities, the government is fostering a generation ready to embrace the challenges of the future with confidence and competence.
