Celebrating Three Decades of Commitment and Progress: The Journey of RCAF’s Brigade 70

by TBC

On a significant day for Cambodia, marking the 30th anniversary of the foundation of the Brigade 70 of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet delivered a noteworthy speech, honoring the strides and achievements of one of the country’s pivotal military units. The event, held in Phnom Penh on October 15, served as a reflective moment to acknowledge the evolution, contributions, and the unwavering spirit of the brigade since its inception.

Prime Minister Hun Manet, addressing the gathering, expressed his contentment and admiration for the brigade’s accomplishments over the past three decades. He highlighted, “The brigade’s capability to meet its responsibilities and objectives has led to remarkable achievements, reflecting a considerable progression in its journey.” The Premier’s words shed light on the dedication and consistent efforts of the officers, deputies, and soldiers of Brigade 70. Their ability to surmount challenges and contribute significantly to the nation’s defense, peacekeeping efforts, stability, and societal order has not gone unnoticed.

During his address, Premier Hun Manet extended his gratitude toward the members of Brigade 70 for their sacrifices. He acknowledged the hardships they have faced and the resilience they have shown in their pursuit of national security and harmony. The Premier’s speech also rekindled the memory of the past 45 years where Cambodia, he noted, has marched forward with unity, valor, assurance, and a clear direction. This progression reflects the earnest wishes and aspirations of the Cambodian population towards a cohesive and secure nation.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Hun Manet took the occasion to remark on the quintessential value of peace. In his words, “The true worth of peace is realized in its absence, and the loss of peace is fraught with peril.” This statement underlined a pivotal message on the fragile nature of peace and the paramount importance of its preservation for the welfare of the country and its people.

Brigade 70, with a history dating back to its reorganization from Battalion 70 to Infantry Brigade 70 on October 15, 1994, by a sub-decree of the Royal Government, has undergone significant transformations over the years. Under the original leadership of General Mao Sophan until 2023, and subsequent changes in command and structure, the brigade has evolved in alignment with the national defense strategies and reforms of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces. Notably, a reformation took place on September 6, 2018, when Brigade 70 transitioned from the General Command to the Army Command. This strategic move was solidified with an official name change from the Infantry Brigade 70 to simply Brigade 70 on May 23, 2019, following a Prakas issued by the Ministry of National Defence.

The journey of Brigade 70 mirrors the resilience, dedication, and continued efforts of Cambodia towards safeguarding peace, ensuring stability, and fostering a secure environment for its citizens. Prime Minister Hun Manet’s commendation of Brigade 70’s achievements not only honors the past 30 years of service but also sets a forward-looking tone for the brigade’s future endeavors in defense and nation-building. As Cambodia continues on its path of development and progress, Brigade 70 remains a key pillar in the country’s pursuit of peace and stability.
