Cambodia and the World Bank join forces to promote skills development for better job opportunities

In a meeting between Cambodia’s Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, Heng Sour, and the World Bank Country Director for Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar, Ms. Mariam Sherman, both parties expressed their commitment to further fostering cooperation in promoting skills among the Cambodian labor force for better job opportunities.

During the meeting, Minister Heng Sour emphasized the ministry’s dedication to working closely with the technical team from the World Bank to ensure the prompt completion of the Cambodia Skill for Better Jobs project. This project is of utmost importance as it aims to advance skills that are responsive to the job market, aligning perfectly with Cambodia’s commitment to train 1.5 million youth from poor and vulnerable families.

Minister Sour commended the World Bank for their continuous support towards Cambodia’s technical training programs, particularly the Cambodia Skill for Better Jobs initiative. He highlighted the significant contribution of this project in enhancing the skill capacity of Cambodian youth.

This joint effort between Cambodia and the World Bank reflects a strong commitment to addressing the needs of the labor market and equipping Cambodian youth with the necessary skills to secure better job opportunities. By prioritizing skills development, Cambodia aims to empower its labor force, especially the underprivileged, and foster a more prosperous future for the country.

Through the collaboration between the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training and the World Bank, Cambodia is expected to see positive outcomes in terms of job creation, economic growth, and poverty reduction. This partnership sets a great example for other countries seeking to prioritize skills development and create a conducive environment for inclusive and sustainable development.

The efforts made by both Cambodia and the World Bank demonstrate their shared vision of unlocking the potential of young Cambodians and providing them with the tools they need to succeed in the modern job market. With continued cooperation and investment in skills development, Cambodia is paving the way for a brighter and more prosperous future for its citizens.
