Cambodia Receives 3.7 Million Air Passengers in the First Nine Months

Cambodia has recorded an impressive year-on-year surge in air passenger arrivals. The country has received nearly 3.7 million air travelers during the first nine months of 2021, indicating a 162 percent increase. The State Secretariat of Civil Aviation’s Undersecretary of State and Spokesman, Sinn ChansereyVutha, disclosed the information, and also reported that international and domestic airlines had operated 37,200 flights to Cambodia during the period. This designation also marks a significant 103 percent increase year-on-year.

However, cargo volume for the same time record shows a 6 percent fall-in year-on-year over 41,000 tonnes.

To boost the country’s air travels, the Siem Reap Angkor International Airport has begun full commercial operation; the airport was inaugurated on Monday. Undersecretary ChansereyVutha is hopeful that the airport will foster new direct international airline services to Siem Reap province, known globally for the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Angkor archeological park. He also noted that the airport has a 3,600-meter runway and is rated as a 4E-level international airport, which can host long-distance flights from any part of the world.
