In the first half of 2022, Cambodia earned $1.2 billion from customs.

In the first half of this year, the General Department of Customs and Excise earned $1,293 million in customs revenue, or 50.1% of the financial plan for 2022.

The data was disclosed by its director-general, H.E Khun Nhim, during a press conference held recently.

Approximately half of the financial plan for 2022 was made up of the income that had been collected, according to Nhim, who also praised the efficiency of the tax collection process.

According to Nhim, the main two sources of customs and excise revenue, at 43% each, are automobiles and machinery.

Two organizations in the Kingdom are in charge of tax collection. The first is the General Department of Taxation, which concentrates on internal taxes like property tax, value-added tax, income tax, and salary tax.

The General Department of Customs and Excise is the other, and it is responsible for collecting taxes on imports and exports of products.

The tax revenue collected by Cambodia between January and May of this year totaled $1,726 million, a 27.95 percent increase over the same time previous year.

In accordance with the rise in local demand and imports, the government said late last month that it had received close to $500 million in taxes from all sources in only the month of June.

The government reopened the borders to travelers who had received vaccinations when Cambodia reached a high vaccination rate, and socioeconomic activities began in November.
