PM Hun Manet Engages with Australian Business Magnates to Foster Trade and Investment

Prime Minister Hun Manet recently engaged with several prominent Australian business leaders, demonstrating a keen interest in forging trade partnerships and exploring investment avenues in Cambodia. This interaction occurred during his visit to Australia, coinciding with the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Melbourne.

Among the dignitaries, Daniel Phillips, President of Aegros and Freshstart Logistics, part of Fresh Start Australia, met with Mr. Hun Manet. Aegros is known for its healthcare ventures, particularly in plasma drug production, while Freshstart Logistics offers cutting-edge solutions in logistics. Phillips discussed the company’s aspirations to explore investment possibilities in Cambodia, focusing on logistics, energy, and healthcare sectors.

In another significant meeting, Paul Serra, CEO of SunRice Group, a major global food exporter, conversed with the Prime Minister. SunRice Group, recognized for its extensive market presence, including in the US, Pacific, Middle East, Europe, and Asia, has the distinction of being the first Australian entity to import Cambodian rice into Australia and New Zealand. Serra highlighted Cambodia’s agricultural potential, citing the global acclaim of Cambodian rice, and expressed interest in enhancing collaboration in the agricultural domain, particularly in rice processing and organic rice production for export.

Prime Minister Hun Manet elaborated on the Royal Government’s initiatives to augment the agricultural sector, including deploying experts to assist farmers and enhancing transport infrastructure and logistics systems. He emphasized the government’s commitment to clean and renewable energy and encouraged Australian enterprises to explore further investment opportunities in Cambodia.

Another key meeting was with Tanachat Pochana, President of Enserv Holding Australia, a company at the forefront of clean energy and climate change mitigation. Pochana outlined the company’s initiatives, especially in sorghum cultivation, a versatile crop with potential for biogas production. Given Cambodia’s suitability for sorghum cultivation, Pochana expressed interest in investing in this area.

Additionally, Peter Fox, CEO of Linfox, met with Mr. Hun Manet to discuss potential collaborations. Linfox, a logistics giant in the Asia-Pacific region, boasts extensive operations across multiple countries.

The Prime Minister also held discussions with Bran Black, Executive Director of the Business Council of Australia, further underlining the robust partnership between the two nations. Australia has been a significant development partner to Cambodia, contributing nearly $2 billion in assistance across various sectors.

These meetings underscore the growing trade and investment ties between Cambodia and Australia, with a focus on sustainable development, renewable energy, and agricultural advancement, reflecting a mutual commitment to economic growth and development.
