PM Lawrence Wong Arrives in Phnom Penh for One-Day Official Visit

Phnom Penh, July 2, 2025 — His Excellency Lawrence Wong, Prime Minister and Minister for Finance of the Republic of Singapore, accompanied by his spouse, Madam Tze Lui Loo, stepped off a specially chartered aircraft at Phnom Penh International Airport early this morning. The dignitaries were greeted by a ceremonial guard of honour and senior Cambodian officials.

This marks PM Wong’s first bilateral trip to Cambodia in his current capacity, as part of an introductory regional tour aimed at strengthening ties across Southeast Asia. During the day‑long visit, he is scheduled to engage in high‑level discussions with Prime Minister Hun Manet, addressing topics such as trade, economic partnership, and collaboration in the digital economy.

Key highlights of the visit include:

  • Bilateral Talks – PM Wong and his Cambodian counterpart will explore expanding trade relations and mutual investment ventures, with a particular focus on emerging sectors like fintech and digital infrastructure.
  • Royal Audience – The Singaporean delegation will receive a Royal Audience with His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni later today, underscoring the diplomatic significance of the visit.
  • Strengthening ASEAN Ties – This visit deepens Singapore’s engagement with Cambodia, reinforcing the cohesion and cooperative vision of ASEAN partners.

In a brief statement, PM Wong expressed optimism about the visit, stating that it will “open new avenues for collaboration between Singapore and Cambodia, especially in trade, digital transformation, and regional connectivity.”

Madam Tze Lui Loo, accompanying him throughout the day, also participated in cultural exchanges emphasizing people‑to‑people links between the two nations.

This high‑level engagement arrives at a time when regional economies are focusing on digital innovation and sustainable growth. The outcomes of today’s meetings are expected to pave the way for future partnerships spanning economic, digital, and cultural domains.
