Tax exemptions for private educational institutions are extended for another five years.

Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen has decided that taxes on private educational institutions will not be collected for another five years, from 2024 to 2028.

During a meeting on February 2, 2023, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen made the decision in response to a request from the Cambodian Higher Education Association (CHEA).

CHEA has conducted activities to improve student education quality, strengthen teacher quality at all levels, and ensure institutional sustainability.

Samdech Hun Sen stated that private educational institutions are an important partner of the Royal Government in improving Cambodia’s education industry. He expressed his appreciation to all higher education institutions for their active participation in human resource training.

The Prime Minister also thanked CHEA for taking part in a number of humanitarian projects, which he sees as helping Cambodian society grow.

Hang Vanda, Director of the CHEA Board of Directors, stated that in order to help private educational institutions, Prime Minister Hun Sen has chosen not to collect taxes from them for another five years, from 2024 to 2028. However, four types of taxes are required: payroll tax, withholding tax, property tax, and patent tax.
