On the 5th of June, 2024, a significant development unfolded within the spheres of Asian diplomacy as Her Excellency RATH Many, serving as the Under Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, actively participated in the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Senior Officials’ Meeting. Demonstrating the potential of digital platforms to bridge geographical divides, this critical assembly was convened via video conference, reflecting the modern era’s approach to international diplomacy and cooperation.
The agenda for this meeting was meticulously structured to address pivotal aspects crucial for the progression of the Asia Cooperation Dialogues. At the heart of the discussions were three fundamental topics designed to guide the future direction and operational efficacy of the ACD.
The first item on the docket revolved around deliberations concerning the recommendation of candidate(s) for the prestigious position of ACD Secretary General for the term spanning from 2024 to 2027. This topic is of paramount importance, as the selected individual will play a critical role in steering the ACD’s initiatives, fostering collaboration among member states, and propelling the organization towards achieving its overarching goals.
Subsequently, the assembly directed its focus towards the finalization of the draft Guiding Principles for the Functioning of the ACD Secretariat. The formulation of such principles is essential, as they will serve as the bedrock for the Secretariat’s operations, ensuring a cohesive and efficient approach to managing the diverse and intricate matters that fall under the ACD’s purview.
Moreover, the preparation for the forthcoming 19th ACD Ministerial Meeting and the eagerly anticipated 3rd ACD Summit formed the third agenda item. These events, scheduled for June and October respectively, are instrumental platforms that facilitate dialogue, promote mutual understanding, and forge developmental strategies amongst the member countries.
Her Excellency RATH Many’s involvement in this meeting underscores Cambodia’s commitment to playing an active role in regional cooperation and dialogue within Asia.
