On the 13th of June, 2024, in an impressive instance of diplomatic engagement, His Excellency SOK Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, welcomed Her Excellency Deirdre Ní Fhallúin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ireland with residence in Hanoi, for a formal visit at the Ministry.
During this cordial meeting, the esteemed representatives from Cambodia and Ireland acknowledged the current state of their bilateral relationship with a sense of substantial contentment. Both dignitaries highlighted the dynamic cooperation that exists between the two nations and emphasized the shared intent to further elevate this partnership to new heights, focusing on areas of shared benefit.
The Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister extended his profound gratitude towards Ireland for its significant support in critical sectors such as education, the removal of landmines, and healthcare. He praised the Irish government for the significant role it plays in supporting Cambodia’s growth and development objectives.
In reciprocity, Her Excellency the Ambassador underscored Ireland’s steady dedication to cultivating stronger ties with nations in the Southeast Asian region, with a particular focus on Cambodia. During the discourse, both parties outlined the criticality of establishing a structured mechanism for bilateral consultations or forming a Joint Economic Commission. This initiative would lay the groundwork for broadening the scope of cooperation, particularly for enhancing the trading relationship and economic exchange activities between Cambodia and Ireland.
As the meeting unfolded, both representatives also delved into a dialogue on a variety of regional and international subjects that are of reciprocal concern and importance. Such discussions are poised to solidify the foundation for not just bilateral but also global collaboration on pressing issues affecting both regions.
