New Connection Between Abu Dhabi and Phnom Penh
Etihad Airways, the national flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has announced a new route connecting Abu Dhabi and Phnom Penh, set to commence on October 4, 2025. This new service will operate five times weekly on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, using state-of-the-art Airbus A321LR aircraft. Flights will depart Phnom Penh at 8:40 AM and arrive in Abu Dhabi at 1:00 PM.
Leveraging Cambodia’s New Techo International Airport
The Phnom Penh-bound flights will utilize the highly anticipated Techo International Airport (TIA), which is scheduled to begin operations in early 2025. This marks a significant milestone in connecting Cambodia to global destinations and fostering international travel.
Expanding Etihad’s Global Network
In addition to the Phnom Penh route, Etihad Airways has announced nine other new destinations for 2025, including:
- Asia: Chiang Mai and Krabi (Thailand), Hanoi (Vietnam), Hong Kong, Medan (Indonesia), and Taipei (Taiwan).
- Other Regions: Algiers (Algeria), Atlanta (USA), and Tunis (Tunisia).
These ten new routes complement previously announced destinations like Prague (Czech Republic), Warsaw (Poland), and Al Alamein (Egypt). By 2025, Etihad Airways will serve 90 destinations across over 50 countries with a fleet of more than 110 aircraft.
Strengthening Cambodia-UAE Ties
This new route highlights the growing relationship between Cambodia and the UAE. The recently implemented Cambodia-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) has already stimulated trade and investment between the two nations. Trade volume reached $75 million in the first 10 months of 2024, a 7% increase compared to 2023.
Promoting Phnom Penh as a Vibrant Destination
Etihad Airways emphasized Phnom Penh’s unique appeal, describing the capital as a blend of historic charm and modern energy. Iconic landmarks such as the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, along with the city’s riverside promenade and dynamic culinary scene, make it a captivating destination for history enthusiasts and cultural explorers alike.
Enhancing Travel Experiences with Etihad’s Stopover Offer
Passengers traveling through Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport can enjoy Etihad’s free stopover offer. This includes complimentary hotel stays for one or two nights in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi, providing travelers with a chance to explore the vibrant city.
Middle Eastern Connectivity to Cambodia
Etihad joins the growing list of Middle Eastern airlines serving Cambodia, including Emirates (via Singapore) and Qatar Airways. This new route is set to enhance connectivity and support the increasing business and tourism exchange between Cambodia and the UAE.
