Cambodia’s Phka Rumduol jasmine variety was named World’s Best Rice for the fifth time on November 17 at the TRT (The Rice Trader) World Rice Conference in Phuket, Thailand, according to representatives of the Kingdom’s apex rice industry body.
Phka Rumduol is a type of long-grain jasmine rice that has emerged as a top choice among international buyers and is one of the varieties exported under the “Angkor Malys” certification mark. According to the Cambodian Agricultural Research and Development Institute, the variety was released for farmer use only in 1999, after ten years of development and testing.
Phka Rumduol had previously won the award four times, three years in a row from 2012 to 2014, and then again in 2018 in Hanoi, Vietnam. From 2015 to 2017, the jasmine variety came in second place three years in a row.
