Cambodia Celebrated Family Day

Cambodia celebrated Family Day yesterday, highlighting the importance of families as the driving force behind the country’s substantial development. Prime Minister Hun Sen emphasized the need for unity and solidarity among families to ensure a better future for Cambodia.

In a message to the nation, Prime Minister Hun Sen urged Cambodians to work together for the prosperity of the country. He called on families and communities across the Kingdom to prioritize education and skill development to create a more robust human resource base.

The Prime Minister also directed the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation (MoSVY) and the Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) to intensify their efforts to support vulnerable people affected by natural disasters or those impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. In response, a social fund called the ‘Family Package’ has been established to assist poor families affected by the pandemic and prevent vulnerable families from falling into poverty.

Mr. Hun Sen encouraged the elderly to share their experiences with the younger generation, who will be responsible for building the nation’s prosperity in the future. He highlighted the role of the elderly as good educators who can guide the younger generation on the right path.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the crucial role of social media and media outlets in disseminating news across the country. He urged them to share more about the role of the family and parents and the importance of educating children to become good citizens.

The statement concluded with the hope that Family Day, under the theme ‘Families are the catalyst of substantial development in the country,’ will contribute to building strong families focused on health and education, ultimately helping to eliminate poverty in the country.

In related news, CRC spokeswoman Men Neary Sopheak said that the organization has played a vital role in reuniting families across the country following the civil war. She added that the CRC stands with the government to support people who lost family members during the Khmer Rouge regime and that their current mission, in collaboration with MoSVY, is to strengthen the welfare of poor families.
