Cambodia’s Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training partners with private sector stakeholders to boost workplace safety and occupational health standards across industries.

Phnom Penh, Cambodia – Cambodia’s Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MLVT) has signed a partnership with private sector stakeholders to strengthen workplace safety standards and occupational safety and health (OSH) practices across the country. The initiative aims to expand OSH awareness, training, and implementation across industries, responding to the increasing demand for safer work environments as the economy grows.

Under the memorandum of understanding, the ministry and private enterprises will collaborate to design and deliver structured training programmes that equip both employers and employees with knowledge and skills to identify workplace hazards, comply with safety regulations, and reduce occupational risks. This collaboration reflects the government’s priority on worker safety amid rapid industrial and manufacturing sector expansion in Cambodia.

Enhanced Occupational Safety and Health Initiatives

The new partnership underscores a strategic shift toward public–private cooperation to improve national OSH frameworks, moving beyond government-led efforts to include industry actors in safety education and standards compliance. Training modules are expected to address key aspects of safety management, hazard prevention, and health safeguards relevant to a range of sectors including manufacturing, construction, and services.

Officials have highlighted the importance of preventive action and learning, especially in sectors where workplace injuries and health risks are more prevalent. The initiative is aligned with Cambodia’s broader OSH policy trends, which promote employer accountability, worker participation, and risk-based safety improvements.

Impacts on Cambodia’s Workforce and Economy

As Cambodia continues its industrial growth and integration into global value chains, strengthening OSH standards is critical for worker welfare and enterprise competitiveness. Experts say that improved workplace safety can enhance productivity, reduce downtime from accidents, and build confidence among foreign investors seeking compliant production environments.

Public–private partnerships in workplace safety also support long-term goals outlined in the National Occupational Safety and Health Master Plan, which encourages multi-stakeholder engagement to embed a safety culture in both formal and informal workplaces.
