Cambodian Cashew Company Explores UK Market Opportunities

Handcrafted Cashew Nuts, a business in Stung Treng province, has a chance to export their products to the UK through the Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS). This program started recently and supports developing nations.

The owner, Muth Chakrya, works with UK partners and receives help from the British and Cambodian embassies. She is preparing samples for UK buyers, but the exact export amount is still uncertain.

Chakrya explained that their processing method is safe and unique. Labs in the US and Japan have certified their cashews as high-quality and safe, allowing exports to the UK. The company also has plans to export to South Korea, the US, and Singapore.

Muth Chakrya, owner of Handcrafted Cashew Nuts, expressed her excitement about the new opportunity to export their unique and high-quality cashews to the UK market. She emphasized the significance of this step for both her business and the Cambodian cashew industry. Chakrya expressed gratitude for the support received from UK partners, as well as the British and Cambodian embassies, and shared her enthusiasm for the continued expansion of her business, bringing the taste of Cambodian cashews to the global market.

Handcrafted Cashew Nuts products are sold in Cambodia, especially in tourist areas like Siem Reap. Uon Silot, president of the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia, praised Chakrya for this opportunity and supports making Cambodian cashews internationally known.

Silot expressed hope for more exports, as the government seeks investment capital and new markets for local businesses. However, more investment is still needed for cashew processing.

The DCTS system, which began in April, benefits 65 countries, including Cambodia, by providing favorable import taxes. The British embassy confirms that this system is excellent for exporting cashews. The Cambodian government aims to increase processing facilities and become a leading cashew producer in the future.
