Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has expressed his support for the introduction of 5G mobile phone services in the country.

Speaking at the Closing Ceremony of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC)’s meeting to review the five-year (2020-2024) achievements in digital transformation and set future goals, held at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel, the Prime Minister called for the development of a national 5G master plan.

“I’d like to request the MPTC to prepare a master plan for the launch of 5G mobile phone service so that the Royal Government can set a suitable timeframe for the implementation of our telecommunications sector development process,” he stated.

He also emphasized the importance of telecommunications, urging all relevant ministries to recognize telephone and internet services as essential infrastructure on par with electricity and clean water.

H.E. Chea Vandeth, Minister of MPTC, highlighted that Cambodia currently operates on a 4G network, covering approximately 82 percent of the country’s territory. He further noted that Cambodia has over 20.6 million registered mobile and landline phone users and nearly 19 million internet subscribers.
