Influence: Phare, the Cambodian Circus’s new show for social good.

Humans have a unique intelligence that has only evolved once throughout the history of life. As a result, we mistakenly believe that humans are the most advanced species and that other species are at lesser stages of evolution. The reality is that only the fittest survive under any circumstances. The meaning of “fittest” varies depending on the environment and situation, as do the mechanisms for the fittest to survive.

Influence: Survival of the fittest

Influence uses drama, circus, and puppetry to show how people fight for power and survival. This is called “survival of the fittest.” Everyone wants to win, whether they are simple creatures fighting in prehistoric jungles, an ancient king who is controlled by outside forces, or a runner who manipulates his opponents to win a race. In Influence, the characters lead and are prompted and tricked, but in the end, they discover their own strength and find their own place in the world.

Influence is one of Phare Ponleu Selpak’s most recent works. Phare promotes creative excellence while incorporating a unique Khmer touch. It was made with help from UNESCO and the European Union as part of a project to help professional artists grow. The artists, musicians, and their teachers came up with a powerful drama about a modern social issue, survival of the fittest, and the struggle for power that is on track to become a top Phare production. During the show, you can discover their mission, vision, and how they serve the community: there is an entire ecosystem behind them.

Phare has flavor. This circus has a sense of humor, joy, passion, and rhythm. The artists develop and perform stories based on their own life experiences, making it more than a show.

You can spend time in Phare before the show. There are a few kiosks serving tasty Khmer cuisine, including vegetarian and vegan options. The show lasts an hour, but you’ll never notice. In addition, you will find that their shop sells a selection of handcrafted Cambodian products.

The shop’s primary objective is to serve as an exhibition space for the art pieces produced by students of the Phare Ponleu Selpak non-profit school as well as those produced by other local artisans. The objective is for guests to enjoy a fantastic evening of indulgence and entertainment at locally owned businesses that provide an exceptional experience while positively impacting the community.

When in Siem Reap, you must attend the Phare Circus show. Not only is it amusing and the acts are exhilarating, but this organization also helps disadvantaged young Cambodians obtain an education and, when old enough, join the circus, which enables them to earn a living and inspires others to follow in their footsteps. There are no animals used in the circus.
