Cambodia Thailand RBC Secretariat Meeting
Cambodia and Thailand held the RBC Secretariat Meeting at Poipet Border Checkpoint to strengthen border security, cooperation, and peace along the frontier.

Cambodia and Thailand held a Regional Border Committee (RBC) Secretariat Meeting at the Poipet International Border Checkpoint on 27 January 2026. The meeting aims to strengthen peace and stability along the shared border.

Officials from Cambodia’s 5th Military Region and Thailand’s 1st Army Area attended. They discussed key agenda points and prepared for the Special RBC Meeting scheduled for 29 January 2026.

The Cambodian delegation was led by Major General Sar Kimpak, Chief of the RBC Secretariat. Major General Phittayakool Pothisuwan, Chairman of the RBC Secretariat, led the Thai delegation. Observers from the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) were also present to ensure transparency and smooth coordination.

Discussions focused on implementing the Joint Statement from the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) held on 27 December 2025. Both sides stressed the importance of mutual trust and maintaining border security, which has faced challenges in the past.

The two-day meeting, from 27 to 28 January, aims to improve communication, cooperation, and coordination on border matters. It provides a platform to address security concerns and support peaceful engagement between the two countries.

Officials emphasized that these regular RBC and GBC meetings are part of broader efforts to reduce tensions and maintain long-term peace. Cooperation between military and civilian representatives demonstrates a shared commitment to de-escalation and constructive dialogue, in line with ASEAN principles.

The meeting’s outcomes are expected to shape the agenda of the upcoming Special RBC Meeting. Cambodia and Thailand aim to ensure a stable, secure, and collaborative environment along the border in the months ahead.
