Angkor Archaeological Park attracted 287,454 international tourists in 2022.

On Wednesday, the state-owned Angkor Enterprise reported that 287,454 international tourists visited Cambodia’s Angkor Archaeological Park in 2022, earning $11.5 million from ticket sales.

Top Sopheak, secretary of state and spokesman for the ministry of tourism, stated that the number of foreign visitors to Angkor has gradually increased since the nation’s successful management of the Covid-19 outbreak and the full reopening of its borders.

According to him, between 1,800 and 2,000 international tourists visit Angkor every day, significantly more than the 70 who visited each day during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

However, Sopheak noted that the current figure was relatively little in comparison to the pre-pandemic period, which saw up to 9,000 foreign tourists each day at Angkor.

As many airlines have resumed their flights to the kingdom, he said, “we expect that more foreign tourists will travel to Cambodia, especially to Angkor, in the coming years.”

The 401 square kilometers Angkor Archaeological Park, located in the northwest Siem Reap province, is Southeast Asia’s most visited tourist destination and was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 1992.

According to the Angkor Enterprise, up to 2.2 million foreign tourists visited Angkor during the pre-pandemic era in 2019, bringing in $99 million in revenue from ticket sales.
