Significant Investment Planned for Cambodia’s Clean Water Sector

by Surya Narayan

On a recent Friday, Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation (MISTI), held discussions with representatives from Hainan Litree Purifying Technology Co., Ltd. The meeting highlighted Litree’s intention to scale up its investments in Cambodia’s sector dedicated to clean water.

Cai Yunlong, the CEO of Hainan Litree Purifying Technology, detailed the company’s extensive experience in membrane technology since its inception in 1992. Recognized globally, the company boasts an international presence, with distribution agents actively promoting its ‘Litree Brand’ across various nations.

The ‘Litree Brand’ water purification equipment, the company’s main product line, is highly regarded for its effectiveness. It is used in numerous applications including municipal water systems, industrial water reuse, and domestic drinking water purification. To date, this technology has supported over 3 million households worldwide in achieving safer water standards.

In Cambodia, Litree’s ultrafiltration (UF) membrane products have been installed in many provinces and cities, enhancing the water treatment capacity to 11,000 cubic meters per day.

Over the next three to five years, Litree has ambitious plans to invest between $50 to $100 million in improving water supplies within the country. This investment will focus particularly on regions where access to clean water is scarce due to the absence of adequate public or private water utilities.

Minister Vanndy expressed his appreciation for Litree’s decision to amplify its role in enhancing Cambodia’s drinking water infrastructure. He highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to facilitating the adoption of advanced technologies within both the public and private sectors.

Further in the discussion, the minister prompted Litree to consider extending their services to bulk water supply projects for private water operators. By leveraging the company’s advanced technology and its established reputation, there is a significant opportunity to augment the availability of potable water across the country.

During the meeting, Hainan Litree reiterated its dedication to aiding Cambodia in solving issues related to clean water and to the conservation of water resources. The company aims to continue integrating advanced membrane systems, implementing containerized water solutions, and ensuring the safety of public water supplies. These efforts align closely with Cambodia’s strategic goals for sustainable development and the diligent management of environmental resources.
