The Royal Government of Cambodia and the Government of the People’s Republic of China have reiterated their commitment to advancing their collaboration in several critical areas, including security, law enforcement, and anti-drug efforts.

This pledge to deepen alliances came to light during a diplomatic meeting on Wednesday, September 18th, when Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun welcomed the Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, Wang Wenbin. The encounter provided an opportunity to discuss the current state of bilateral ties and future endeavors between the two nations.

The collaboration between Cambodia and China, according to Neth Savoeun, spans diverse domains, including security, economic development, and trade. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his optimism about the potential growth and prosperity to be fostered by this inter-nation collaboration. Highlighting the firm foundation of friendship between the two countries, he regarded China as a steadfast and integral partner, instrumental to Cambodia’s journey towards national development.

Gratitude for the assistance and solidarity demonstrated by China towards Cambodian ventures was a key theme during the dialogue. Neth Savoeun acknowledged the vital role that China’s raised developmental support has played across numerous sectors within Cambodia. The contributions from China have undeniably been pivotal in the Southeast Asian nation’s stride towards progress.

The collective spirit of the meeting suggested that with the Chinese ambassador’s profound skill set, bilateral initiatives were expected to see greater prosperity and effectiveness in times to come. The Royal Government of Cambodia’s receptiveness and disposition boded well for a continuum of productive bilateral undertakings.

Echoing these sentiments, the Chinese ambassador affirmed China’s longstanding alliance with Cambodia. With ambitions for Cambodia to achieve middle-income status by 2030 and further ascend to a high-income status by 2050, China’s role as a supportive partner was underscored. The ambassador assured that China would persist in backing measures aiming to lift living standards for the Cambodian populace.

Furthermore, the Chinese envoy emphasized China’s readiness to back Cambodia in both regional and global arenas, aligning with the ‘win-win policy’ championed by Prime Minister Hun Sen. This policy underpins the resolve to navigate through conflict and pursuit of peaceful resolutions on a broader scale.

In the sphere of national security, a critical aspect of the dialogue was the collaborative efforts between the two countries in strengthening capacities and sharing best practices to enforce laws and counteract drug trafficking and other cross-border crimes. Wang Wenbin noted the existing synergies between Cambodia’s National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD) and its Chinese counterpart. Such partnerships are poised to further elevate the effectiveness of anti-drug campaigns and contribute to enhanced safety and security for both nations.

The meeting concluded with a reinforced dedication to joint efforts in maintaining law and order and furthering economic and security objectives that mutually benefit and respect each country’s sovereignty and development goals. It showcased not only the shared aspirations but also the mutual respect and willingness to work collectively towards a vision of progress and stability in the region.
