Cambodia and Switzerland Reaffirm Strong Bilateral Cooperation at Francophonie Ministerial Conference

Cambodian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn met with H.E. Ignazio Cassis, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation, for a bilateral discussion on the afternoon of November 20 in Kigali, Rwanda. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 46th Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, both ministers praised the steady growth of Cambodia–Switzerland relations and explored new opportunities to deepen collaboration across key sectors. The discussion reflected the shared commitment of both nations to advance development cooperation and expand their partnership.

During the meeting, the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister expressed appreciation for Switzerland’s long-standing development assistance to the Kingdom. He highlighted Swiss contributions in health, demining, culture, and local governance, noting that these areas have played an essential role in supporting Cambodia’s progress and community development efforts.

The Swiss side reaffirmed its continued commitment to working closely with Cambodia and expressed strong support for the Kingdom’s role as host of the 20th Francophonie Summit in 2026. Switzerland also conveyed its readiness to participate in the landmark event, which is expected to bring global attention to Cambodia’s growing diplomatic engagement within the Francophonie community.
