Cambodia Welcomes Investment and Labor Cooperation with Japan

Heng Sour, the Minister of Labor and Vocational Training, has expressed Cambodia’s support for Japanese investors interested in investing in Cambodia and expanding labor cooperation between the two countries.

The Minister made these comments during a meeting with a delegation from Asakuchi, Okayama province, Japan. The delegation, led by Yasuhiko Kuriyama, included Fumiaki Takahashi, President of the Japan-Cambodia Association, and other association members.

During the meeting on April 1, 2024, the Minister emphasized Cambodia’s readiness to provide support to Japanese investors in terms of Social Security and Vocational Training. The aim is to create more job opportunities for the local population.

The Minister also welcomed the intention to enhance labor cooperation, highlighting Cambodia’s existing experience in this field. The Japanese side expressed interest in the Minister’s remarks and highlighted the potential of Asakuchi’s renowned products, such as wine and noodles made through traditional handicrafts, as well as fisheries (including oysters) and restaurant product processing.

The Japanese companies are willing to transfer technology and production standards to enable Cambodians with high skills and capacity to produce goods of Japanese standard quality.

Following fruitful discussions between the two sides, the Minister expressed optimism that Japanese investors would bring their resources, skills, and raw materials to enable smooth business operations and support future Japanese investments in Cambodia.

Given that the Minister had studied in Japan, he emphasized his desire to see more Japanese investors coming to Cambodia and creating additional job opportunities for the Cambodian population. This will further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries across all aspects.
