The PBS Angkor documentary highlights Cambodia’s ancient temples, increasing global awareness and supporting tourism growth.

Cambodia’s tourism industry is gaining renewed global attention after a documentary on the Angkor temple complex premiered on U.S. public broadcaster PBS. The program highlights Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage and positions Angkor as one of Southeast Asia’s most important historical sites.

The documentary explores the rise of the Khmer Empire and explains how Angkor became a major political and cultural center centuries ago. It showcases advanced engineering, impressive architecture, and detailed city planning.

Archaeological research featured in the program reveals how the civilization managed water systems and supported a large population, giving viewers a deeper understanding of the site’s historical significance.

Key temples within the Angkor Archaeological Park, including Angkor Wat, Bayon, and Ta Prohm, are featured. These sites illustrate skilled craftsmanship and enduring cultural traditions. The documentary emphasizes Angkor’s scale and importance beyond its visual beauty, making it clear why the site remains a global heritage icon.

Tourism officials see the international broadcast as a positive development. Angkor, located in Siem Reap province, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and continues to be Cambodia’s most visited tourist attraction.

Experts expect that the documentary will boost interest in cultural and heritage tourism, attracting visitors from around the world.

Part of PBS’s educational programming, the documentary is available on multiple platforms, allowing it to reach a wide audience. Industry observers note that history-focused documentaries often influence travel decisions by raising awareness of cultural destinations and historical landmarks.
