Phnom Penh, Cambodia – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has extended his congratulations to participants marks the 28th National Culture Day, observed under the theme “Youth for National Culture.” The annual celebration underscores the importance of cultural heritage and the engagement of young people in preserving and promoting Cambodia’s rich traditions.

In his remarks, PM Hun Manet emphasised cultural identity as a cornerstone of national unity, praising the efforts of government agencies, cultural organisations, and communities in sustaining Cambodia’s artistic, historical, and traditional legacies.

Theme “Youth for National Culture” Encourages Engagement

This year’s theme, “Youth for National Culture,” focuses on mobilising younger generations to participate actively in cultural activities, heritage conservation, and artistic expression. Events and programmes were organised nationwide, including traditional performances, exhibitions, and youth-led initiatives aimed at fostering appreciation for Cambodia’s cultural assets.

Officials noted that engaging youth in cultural preservation helps bridge generational knowledge transfer, ensuring that customs, language, arts, and heritage practices are sustained into the future.

Significance of National Culture Day for Cambodia

National Culture Day offers a platform to recognise and celebrate Cambodia’s diverse cultural heritage, from classical dance and music to crafts and folklore. The annual observance contributes to national pride, diversity recognition, and education about intangible cultural practices.

Government representatives and cultural leaders highlighted that promoting heritage not only preserves the past but also supports creative industries and community cohesion. Programmes associated with the event have included workshops, demonstrations, and youth competitions that showcase talent and cultural understanding.
