Vietnamese Motorcycle Dealer Imports 2024 Honda Dream from Cambodia

A motorbike dealer in Vietnam has recently brought in a shipment of the latest model of the Honda Dream, a nostalgic vehicle that was popular several decades ago. The previous version of the bike used to sell for VND100 million ($3,970), but the new model is priced at $2,500 in Cambodia, where they are imported from.

The Honda Dream holds a special place in the hearts of many generations of Vietnamese people. However, it was discontinued in numerous countries, making Cambodia the sole manufacturer of this iconic motorcycle in Southeast Asia.

The 2024 model still maintains its classic and sleek design, with the name “Dream” engraved beneath its rear seat handle. However, the square panels that were a trademark of the previous versions have been replaced with more subtle rounded ones. This design choice has not been well-received by the majority of Vietnamese motorcycle enthusiasts, as it closely resembles SYM motorbikes.

The manufacturing of the Dream involves a combination of imported and locally produced parts. Honda and Yamaha are the two major brands that dominate the imported motorcycle market in Vietnam.

Some dealers speculate that the new Dream, similar to the previous Wave 125i imported from Thailand, will be sold at a higher price of VND80 million. This is twice the price of similar models assembled locally.

With minimal differences in horsepower, technology, or design, and a price tag comparable to that of premium automatic or performance motorcycles, the 2024 Honda Dream may struggle to attract young customers who typically prefer sleek and modern designs.

Instead, it is expected to primarily appeal to wealthy collectors who are nostalgic for the good old days.
