Itinerary
Today, you’ll explore some of the most captivating temples located outside the ancient city of Angkor Thom.
Your tour begins with pickup from your hotel at approximately 8:00 AM, followed by visits to the following highlights:
- Pre Rup Temple: A Hindu temple built as the state temple of Khmer King Rajendravarman and dedicated in 961 or early 962. This temple mountain is constructed with a combination of brick, laterite, and sandstone, offering a unique glimpse into early Khmer architecture.
- Banteay Srei: Famous for its intricately carved and remarkably well-preserved pink sandstone structure. The temple’s delicate reliefs are considered among the finest in Cambodia. Banteay Srei has only been accessible since the late 1990s, after the area was cleared of Khmer Rouge activity.
After a mid-day break, the journey continues:
- Neak Pean: An artificial island featuring a Buddhist temple built on a circular platform in the middle of Jayatataka Baray. This tranquil site symbolizes healing and balance.
- Preah Khan: A large, atmospheric temple partially covered by tree roots and crumbling stone. Built by King Jayavarman VII in honor of his father, it presents a striking contrast to the grandeur of Angkor Wat. The temple is currently undergoing restoration by the World Monuments Fund and remains in impressive condition in many areas.
The day concludes with a stunning sunset over ancient ruins, before returning to town after a memorable day of discovery.
