About The Better Cambodia

The Better Cambodia is an independent news platform that tells Cambodia’s story as it truly is: its people, its progress and its opportunities, reported with honesty, dignity and pride.

We publish news and features on business and investment, policy and diplomacy, technology, the environment, society, travel, culture and history, and the people changing their communities, from all 25 provinces of the Kingdom. Stories appear in English, with Khmer, French and Chinese editions.

Our mission

At The Better Cambodia, we believe in the power of positive news to inspire and uplift our readers. Our mission is to showcase the best of Cambodia and its people, highlighting stories of hope, resilience and progress.

Cambodia has so many positive stories, yet most of the world never hears them. The people, the energy, the daily acts of kindness and the steady progress happening across the country all deserve to be told in an honest way. We want to show Cambodia as it truly is: without exaggeration, without drama and without judgement.

How we work

Every article is written carefully. We check facts, we listen to people, and we try our best to treat every story with respect.

  • Stories are written and edited by the TBC Team and contributing writers, and show the date they were published.
  • Some news is based on reporting by Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP), used with permission. Those stories are rewritten by our team and credit AKP as the source.
  • Khmer, French and Chinese versions translated automatically are labelled as such until an editor has reviewed them.
  • Sponsored content is always marked as sponsored.

Our independence

One principle has guided us from day one: our independence is non-negotiable.

We do not accept support from private groups or from the government if it comes with expectations, pressure or even subtle attempts to shape our narrative. Our work is meaningful only when we are free to tell Cambodia’s story as it truly is: with honesty, dignity and pride.

If an organisation genuinely believes in positive journalism and does not influence our editorial direction in any way, we welcome its support. We are happy to work with partners who respect our independence, share our values and recognise that our mission is to uplift Cambodia through facts, fairness and constructive storytelling, not through dictated narratives. For us, support is welcome; influence is not.

Our impact

Many readers from abroad have written to us to say that our stories encouraged them to visit or invest in Cambodia, and new jobs and opportunities have followed. Knowing that our work has played even a small part in that is what keeps us building this platform.

Partnerships for the goals

Our work is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 17 (SDG 17), partnerships for the goals. We are dedicated to fostering collaborations that promote sustainable growth and benefit all Cambodians, and by highlighting these partnerships we aim to drive positive change for the Kingdom’s future.
