Cambodia Advocates for Enhanced ASEAN Solidarity at the 7th Indian Ocean Conference

In a significant move to reinforce Cambodia’s commitment to regional cooperation and stability, His Excellency PRAK Nguon Hong, Secretary of State, represented Cambodia at the 7th Indian Ocean Conference. This notable event, which took place on February 9-10, 2024, in Perth, Australia, was centered around the theme “Towards a Stable and Sustainable Indian Ocean”. The conference brought together delegates from various nations to discuss and strategize on fostering a more stable and sustainable environment within the Indian Ocean region.

Acting on behalf of His Excellency SOK Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Secretary of State PRAK Nguon Hong articulated Cambodia’s strategic priorities in the region. He underscored the nation’s dedication to bolstering the centrality and unity of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). By doing so, Cambodia aims to strengthen the collective voice and cooperation among ASEAN member states, ensuring that the region remains a key player in international affairs.

Moreover, PRAK Nguon Hong emphasized Cambodia’s support for a rules-based international order that upholds inclusivity and multilateralism. Such an approach is vital for addressing complex regional challenges and ensuring that all nations, regardless of their size, have a say in shaping the regional agenda.

The Secretary of State also welcomed all efforts that aim to enhance regional peace, stability, and development. He encouraged nations within the Indian Ocean vicinity to collaborate closely, fostering practical cooperation that transcends mere diplomatic engagements. This call to action reflects Cambodia’s vision of a cohesive region where countries work hand in hand to achieve common goals and tackle shared challenges.

The participation of Cambodia in this conference underscores its proactive stance in regional and international diplomacy. By advocating for increased solidarity among ASEAN members and championing a collaborative approach to regional issues, Cambodia is playing a crucial role in driving forward the agenda for a more stable and prosperous Indian Ocean region. This participation not only highlights Cambodia’s diplomatic endeavors but also its commitment to contributing positively to regional dynamics and international relations.
