Cambodia and China Bolster Economic, Trade, and Investment Cooperation through ASEAN-China Centre Initiatives

In an effort to strengthen economic, trade, and investment relations between Cambodia and China, the two countries are dedicated to maintaining cooperation at a regional level, working closely with the Ministry of Commerce and the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC).

This commitment was solidified during an April 20 meeting held at the Ministry’s headquarters, where commerce ministry secretary of state Rath Saravuth and ACC secretary-general Shi Zhongjun discussed ways to enhance ASEAN-China trade and investment cooperation and reinforce Cambodia-China relations.

Saravuth expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government and its people for their unwavering support and cooperation, which has significantly contributed to Cambodia’s economic and social growth.

During the meeting, Zhongjun informed Saravuth about the ACC’s accomplishments and their priorities and initiatives for 2023. These include several sustainable development cooperation initiatives, such as organizing a visit by an economic delegation, China Trade, the ASEAN-China Business Network Expansion Event, and the ASEAN-China Trade and Investment Promotion Workshop.

“The strengthened economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Cambodia and China, as demonstrated by their commitment to working with the Ministry of Commerce and the ASEAN-China Centre (ACC), is vital for Cambodia’s development. This collaboration not only contributes significantly to Cambodia’s economic and social growth, but also helps close the development gaps within the ASEAN region. In addition, the ACC’s priority projects and initiatives are designed to support the developing countries in the region, including Cambodia. By fostering close collaboration on trade and investment matters, these efforts ultimately benefit the people of both ASEAN and China while boosting Cambodia’s development, investment potential, and opportunities.“

Additionally, Zhongjun emphasized that the ACC has prioritized projects that foster cooperation and provide support for the least developed countries in the ASEAN region, such as Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar, in an effort to close the development gaps within the region.

The ACC secretary-general requested the Ministry’s backing for several priority projects and invited Cambodian leadership and senior officials to closely collaborate on trade and investment matters between ASEAN and China, as well as between China and Cambodia in the future.

Saravuth welcomed the ACC’s priority projects and initiatives, acknowledging their benefits for the people of ASEAN and China. He also thanked China for its keen interest in Cambodia’s development.

Furthermore, Saravuth updated the secretary-general on Cambodia’s latest developments, investment potential, and opportunities, urging Chinese investors to continue investing in Cambodia.
