Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Manet Highlights Investment Opportunities for Foreign Investors

In a keynote speech at the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit in Jakarta, Cambodia’s new Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasised the country’s commitment to welcoming foreign investors and its aspirations to become a high-income economy. Hun Manet, who recently assumed office in August, stated that Cambodia is ready to attract prospective investors to explore the abundant opportunities available in the kingdom.

Over the past few decades, Cambodia has focused on rebuilding after the civil war. Under the new government’s leadership, the country aims to accelerate its national development in the next 25 years, with the goal of achieving high-income economy status by 2050. The Prime Minister’s remarks reflect the government’s dedication to economic growth and its determination to create an investor-friendly environment.

China has made significant investments in public projects in Cambodia, such as motorways and railway systems, as part of its Belt and Road Initiative. Hun Manet’s statement reaffirms Cambodia’s commitment to a multilateral system, a rules-based international order, and the principle of noninterference in maintaining peace both domestically and globally.

As Cambodia aims to attract foreign investment, Hun Manet also reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the multilateral system, a rules-based international order, and the principle of noninterference. This commitment aims to protect and promote peace both within Cambodia and globally.

Prime Minister Hun Manet’s remarks come at a pivotal moment as he attends his first ASEAN summit and East Asia Summit, where his comments will be closely watched. In his first overseas trip since assuming office in August, Hun Manet met Indonesian President Joko Widodo after participating in the business forum, demonstrating Cambodia’s dedication to strengthening regional partnerships and cooperation.

Hun Manet, the youngest leader in the regional bloc, brings a wealth of academic experience to his role. Educated at the prestigious U.S. Military Academy (West Point), he holds a master’s degree in economics from New York University and a doctorate in the field from the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.

Prime Minister Hun Manet’s focus on attracting foreign investors and accelerating Cambodia’s economic progress reflects the government’s determination to attain high-income economy status. The country’s commitment to the principles of peace, multilateralism, and a rules-based international order presents opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships and economic growth in the region.
