Cambodian, Vietnamese Foreign Ministers Discuss Cooperation on ASEAN Sidelines

Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Prak Sokhonn, held bilateral talks with Vietnam’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Le Hoai Trung, in Cebu, Philippines. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat.

The talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations between Cambodia and Vietnam. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close and stable diplomatic ties. They stressed the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation at all levels to support long-term partnership and mutual development.

Economic cooperation was a key focus of the discussion. Both sides agreed to enhance trade and investment ties and promote stronger economic connectivity. Improving transport links and logistics was highlighted as an important step to support cross-border trade and people-to-people exchanges.

Border cooperation was also discussed during the meeting. The ministers reiterated their shared commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and trust along the Cambodia–Vietnam border. They agreed to continue working together to address border-related matters in a constructive and cooperative manner, based on existing agreements.

Regional cooperation featured prominently in the talks. Both Cambodia and Vietnam reaffirmed their support for ASEAN unity and centrality. They agreed to strengthen coordination within ASEAN frameworks to promote regional stability, economic growth, and effective responses to common challenges.

The meeting also reviewed progress in ongoing bilateral cooperation and discussed future priorities. Preparations for upcoming diplomatic milestones, including the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Vietnam in 2027, were also noted. Both sides expressed confidence that continued engagement would further deepen ties.
