Hun Manet Pushes for Enhanced ASEAN–Japan Cooperation on Digital and Green Growth, Calls for Effective AJCEP and RCEP Implementation

Kuala Lumpur— Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet reaffirmed the importance of strengthening regional economic and technological ties during the 28th ASEAN–Japan Summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Addressing regional leaders, Samdech Thipadei emphasized the need to upgrade the ASEAN–Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership (AJCEP) and ensure the effective implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). He underscored the value of cooperation in driving digital transformation under the ASEAN–Japan Digital Work Plan 2025 and advancing cybersecurity through the ASEAN–Japan Cyber Security Capacity Building Centre.

The Cambodian leader also commended Japan’s role in supporting sustainable energy transitions and promoting green growth, noting that both sides share a commitment to building a more secure, sustainable, and prosperous future.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, ASEAN and Japan leaders adopted the Joint Statement of the 28th ASEAN–Japan Summit on Further Promotion and Implementation of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP). They reiterated their shared vision for an open, transparent, inclusive, and rules-based regional architecture.

The meeting further reaffirmed the ASEAN–Japan Comprehensive Partnership across three pillars: Heart-to-Heart Partners Across Generations, Partners for Co-Creation of the Economy and Society of the Future, and Partners for Peace and Stability—reflecting a joint commitment to deeper collaboration for the benefit of all peoples in the region.
