Prime Minister Hun Manet Advocates Sustained Support for Vocational and Technological Training for Cambodian Muslims

Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 21 – Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia has emphasized the imperative of continuous investment in vocational and technological training programs for Cambodian Muslims, aimed at augmenting their employment opportunities and socioeconomic empowerment.

Addressing attendees at the 2024 Ramadan Iftar dinner in Phnom Penh on Thursday evening (Mar. 21), Prime Minister Hun Manet reiterated the significance of ongoing initiatives to equip Cambodian Muslims with the skills necessary to secure dignified employment and contribute positively to societal development.

Samdech Thipadei stressed, “I urge sustained focus on diverse vocational and technological training programs, enabling Cambodian Muslims to access quality employment opportunities, thereby fostering improved familial well-being and constructive societal engagement.”

The Prime Minister highlighted the burgeoning growth within the education sector of the Khmer-Muslim community, attributing this progress to the supportive framework provided by the Royal Government. This framework has facilitated the elevation of Khmer-Muslim educators within the community, resulting in an increased enrollment of Cambodian students and the emergence of intellectuals.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to upholding religious freedoms, citing instances such as the allowance for Muslim students to adorn traditional Islamic attire and women to wear headscarves within educational institutions. Moreover, provisions have been made for men to utilize photo identification for administrative purposes, including passport and ID card issuance.

Emphasizing the government’s dedication to ensuring accessibility to religious practices, Samdech Thipadei noted the provision of prayer facilities across various public venues, including airports, government hospitals, factories, hotels, supermarkets, and notably, the Peace Palace.

Prime Minister Hun Manet’s call for sustained support for vocational and technological training underscores the government’s commitment to fostering inclusive growth and enhancing opportunities for Cambodian Muslims. Through these endeavors, Cambodia endeavors to cultivate a skilled workforce capable of contributing meaningfully to the nation’s socioeconomic advancement and fostering a climate of diversity and inclusion.
