Siem Reap Angkor International Airport Gears Up for Trial Flights in Mid-May

The Siem Reap Angkor International Airport is preparing to take a significant step towards completion, with trial flights scheduled for mid-May 2023. The airport’s construction steering committee and Yunnan Air Investment Cambodia Airport management recently convened to discuss the airport’s progress and confirm the timeline for flight trials.

Tek Reth Samrech, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Committee, presided over the meeting, accompanied by Zou Yuhui, Chairman of Yunnan Air Investment Cambodia Airport management, and other officials. The attendees expressed their readiness for flight validation during the meeting.

As of March 2023, the airport’s construction has reached 92% completion. The airport operation management process has also made significant progress, with 38 of the 79 total activities in the airport operation management plan now complete. The plan, which has been approved by the Cambodian government, aims to have all remaining activities completed in time for the airport’s official launch in October 2023.

Tek Reth Samrech expressed gratitude to the committee members, various ministries, and institutions for their unwavering support and commitment to this monumental project. He acknowledged the dedication and effort of the companies and stakeholders involved in bringing the project to its current stage.

The Siem Reap Angkor International Airport is being developed by Angkor International Airport Investment (Cambodia) Co., Ltd (AIAI), with an investment of over $880 million. Spanning approximately 700 hectares in Sot Nikum district, Siem Reap province, the airport is situated 50 km from Siem Reap city and 40 km from the Angkor Wat temple complex. The location ensures that heritage protection areas will remain unaffected.

AIAI commenced the construction of the 4E class Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport in March 2020. The airport, valued at $880 million, is designed to accommodate long-haul aircraft, further bolstering Cambodia’s connectivity with the world.
