At least five vehicle assembly investment projects have been approved in Cambodia, and construction is expected to be completed soon.
Soeun Dara, executive director of the Cambodia Automotive Industry Federation, said that this will bring the total number of car assembly factories in Cambodia to nine, of which three are already functioning.
Hyundai, located in Koh Kong province, Daehan, located in Bavet city, Svay Rieng province, and RMA Cambodia’s Ford, located in Pursat province, are the three currently operational auto assembly plants.
Located in the province of Kampong Speu, the Isuzu factory in Cambodia has completed construction and will soon begin operations, he reported.
The other five firms are HGB Motor Assembly, EM Automotive, GTV Motor, Toyota, and China Matrix Technology Group, all of which have been approved by the Council for the Development of Cambodia, he said.
“The new factories will increase employment opportunities for locals,” Dara stated.
As Cambodia gains access to electrical components and vehicle assembly plants, Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen has supported the training of technical professionals as a response to massive industrial investments using high technology.
The Prime Minister stated earlier this week that there are already many automobile assembly firms in Cambodia, including Ford, Hyundai, and in the future Toyota, all of which are located in the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone.
