Prime Minister Hun Sen and IFC Vice President Discuss Expanding Investments in Cambodia

On the afternoon of December 16, 2024, His Excellency Prime Minister Hun Sen, President of the Kingdom of Cambodia, met with Riccardo Puliti, Vice President for Asia and the Pacific of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), at the Peace Palace for a courtesy call and to discuss future collaboration.

During the meeting, Mr. Puliti expressed his deep appreciation for the Royal Government of Cambodia’s achievements in maintaining peace, stability, and robust economic growth. He commended Cambodia’s commitment to fostering a thriving private sector, recognizing its pivotal role in the country’s socio-economic development.

The Vice President also lauded the productive cooperation between IFC and Cambodian ministries and institutions in recent years. He shared IFC’s intention to explore opportunities for expanding investments in key sectors, including renewable energy, logistics and transportation, and the financial sector.

Prime Minister Hun Sen, in response, thanked IFC for its continued contributions to Cambodia’s socio-economic progress and warmly welcomed its plans to increase investments. The Prime Minister emphasized Cambodia’s focus on renewable energy development, noting that the country currently derives approximately 62% of its energy from renewable sources, with a goal to reach 70% by 2030.

In addition, Prime Minister Hun Sen highlighted the Royal Government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure in the logistics and transportation sectors. He pointed to ongoing developments such as expressways and deep-water ports aimed at strengthening domestic, regional, and international connectivity.

The Prime Minister also discussed the government’s efforts to modernize financial systems through initiatives like the KHQR system, which has improved payment methods, enhanced competitiveness, and facilitated investment in Cambodia.

He encouraged IFC to continue collaborating with relevant ministries and institutions in Cambodia to capitalize on emerging investment opportunities and contribute further to the Kingdom’s sustainable development.
