Phnom Penh – Angkor Wat, the majestic temple complex and Cambodia’s most iconic landmark, has been ranked the most-loved attraction in Asia by Tripadvisor this year, surpassing world-famous sites such as China’s Mutianyu Great Wall and India’s Taj Mahal.
This morning, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, extended heartfelt congratulations on this global recognition. “Angkor Wat is a world wonder—and it’s not hard to see why. Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site and admire its architecture and intricate carvings,” Tripadvisor noted in its announcement.
Tourists Praise Timeless Beauty
Visitors to Angkor Wat continue to be captivated by its grandeur and atmosphere. One international tourist described the experience as “unforgettable,” highlighting the breathtaking architecture, intricate carvings, and profound historical significance. The visitor added that witnessing the sunrise over the temple was “absolutely magical” and praised the knowledgeable guides who share rich insights into the Khmer Empire.
Another traveller called the temple “simply breathtaking,” saying that walking through the complex at sunrise felt like “a once-in-a-lifetime” moment, as golden light reflected off its soaring stone towers.
A Monument of Global Significance
Built in the 12th century by King Suryavarman II (1112–1152 AD), Angkor Wat is the world’s largest religious monument and a timeless symbol of Khmer ingenuity and devotion. Beyond its architectural mastery, the temple embodies the cultural, spiritual, and historical depth of Cambodia.
Over the years, Angkor Wat has collected numerous global honors. It has been named the Best Sunrise Spot in the World, the Most Photogenic UNESCO World Heritage Site in Asia, and even hailed as the Eighth Wonder of the World. Today’s accolade as Asia’s Most-Loved Attraction in 2025 adds yet another jewel to its crown.
Pride of Cambodia
For Cambodians, Angkor Wat is more than a tourist destination—it is a profound symbol of national identity, resilience, and pride. The temple, featured prominently on Cambodia’s national flag, stands as a reminder of the Khmer Empire’s golden age and continues to inspire awe among millions of visitors each year.
With this recognition, Cambodia reinforces its place on the global tourism map, inviting travellers from around the world to discover the magic, history, and spirit of Angkor Wat.
