Phnom Penh: Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin co-signed the Agreement on the Cooperation on Projects of the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Special Fund 2025 on 17 September 2025 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, according to a press release seen on Thursday (Sep. 18).
Within the framework of the MLC Special Fund 2025, Cambodia will receive financial support amounting to approximately USD 2.5 million from the Government of the People’s Republic of China. This funding will cover a total of eleven projects, designed to deliver tangible benefits across a wide spectrum of sectors. These include tourism development, healthcare improvement, agricultural modernization, cultural heritage conservation, promotion of women’s entrepreneurship, enhancement of technical and vocational education and training (TVET), strengthening productivity and digital adoption among Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), as well as efforts to combat fake news and raise awareness about the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation framework.
The Ministry noted that the projects will further contribute to Cambodia’s socio-economic progress and the country’s integration into the broader Mekong-Lancang development agenda. Officials emphasized that these initiatives are not only aligned with Cambodia’s national development priorities but also reinforce collective efforts to achieve sustainable growth and regional stability.
It is also worth highlighting that, over the past decade, the MLC Special Fund has financed 95 projects across Cambodia. These initiatives have spanned various fields, ranging from infrastructure and education to cultural and community development. The ongoing support demonstrates the enduring commitment of both Cambodia and China to foster collaboration within the MLC framework.
The Ministry underscored that the successful implementation of these projects reflects the joint determination of Mekong-Lancang countries to build a Community of Shared Future of Peace, Prosperity, and Sustainable Development.
