Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, President of the Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP), to the Peace Palace on Saturday, December 7.
During the meeting, the RISEAP president thanked Cambodia’s Royal Government for supporting the organization’s 20th General Assembly, held in Phnom Penh for the first time. He highlighted RISEAP’s mission, which has focused on promoting mutual understanding and respect among religions since its founding in 1980 by Malaysia’s first Prime Minister.
The president also spoke about opportunities to deepen collaboration between Malaysia and Cambodia, noting Sarawak’s potential to play a pivotal role in fostering closer ties.
Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his appreciation for RISEAP’s choice of Cambodia as the host for this important event. He emphasized that the country’s peace and stability have been key to its religious harmony and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting all religious communities, including the Muslim community, to promote unity.
The discussion also explored ways to enhance cooperation in areas such as education, tourism, and energy, with both sides agreeing on the potential benefits of establishing direct flights between Sarawak and Cambodia to strengthen connections between the two countries.
This meeting highlighted the growing partnership between Cambodia and Malaysia and their shared vision for a peaceful and collaborative future.
