Phnom Penh, Cambodia — Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet has called for national unity and resilience, urging citizens to turn the difficulties arising from the border dispute with Thailand into strength, the government stated on 10 February 2026. The comments come amid ongoing tensions along the Cambodia–Thailand frontier, which have affected border communities and drawn international attention.
In a public address, Hun Manet emphasised the importance of careful, measured action by the Royal Government of Cambodia, stating that decisions regarding the territorial dispute must be based on thorough assessment rather than social media commentary or speculation. This reflects official concerns over misinformation and the impact of public narratives on national cohesion.
The Prime Minister reiterated that safeguarding land and people remains a top priority, affirming that Cambodia will defend its territorial integrity under international law while pursuing peaceful dialogue and diplomatic channels to resolve outstanding issues with Thailand. Hun Manet also thanked Cambodians for their continued unity and patience as leadership works to address the concerns of affected communities.
Cambodia’s border dispute with Thailand, which stems from long-standing disagreements over frontier demarcation and specific contested areas, escalated into a wider crisis in 2025, involving occasional military skirmishes and civilian displacement. A peace accord and ceasefire have been brokered previously, yet tensions persist, prompting both governments to renew calls for diplomatic engagement.
Hun Manet also called for comprehensive support systems to nurture outstanding students and young people nationwide, linking national human capital development with the broader context of stability and future prosperity. The appeal for collective resolve underscores the government’s intention to balance domestic priorities with external challenges.
Observers note that Cambodia’s diplomatic efforts with regional and global partners have continued alongside domestic messaging stressing unity, lawful approach, and resilience. The government’s statements aim to reassure citizens and stakeholders that all measures related to the border dispute will follow legal frameworks and uphold national interests.
