Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, has urged civil servants, organizations, and stakeholders across Cambodia to participate in the “One Tourist, One Tree” campaign, a groundbreaking initiative designed to promote green tourism and enhance the country’s appeal to visitors.
Speaking at a tree-planting ceremony in Toek Chhou district, Kampot province, Hak highlighted the campaign’s potential to create a unique tourism product while fostering environmental sustainability. The event, held along the road behind the International Tourist Port, marked a significant step in aligning Cambodia’s tourism sector with global trends in eco-tourism.
Mao Thonin, Governor of Kampot province, added that the tree-planting initiative is part of the preparations for the 11th Sea Festival, which is being hosted in Kampot for the third time. The activity aims to beautify key areas, including the road connecting the provincial hall to the site of a new beach development project spearheaded by the provincial administration.
The Sea Festival 2024, organized by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, the Kampot Provincial Administration, and other partners, officially begins today and runs through Sunday.
This year’s festival promises a vibrant lineup of activities, including live performances, artistic shows, and concerts featuring both local and international artists. Highlights include fireworks displays, a Food and Beverage Festival showcasing regional products, and exhibitions on agri-tourism and locally crafted goods.
A total of 1,159 police officers, including 99 women, will ensure the safety and smooth operation of the event across key locations in Kampot province. The Sea Festival not only celebrates Cambodia’s coastal heritage but also underscores the nation’s commitment to sustainable tourism development.
