Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet yesterday welcomed the commencement of operations at Techo International Airport (TIA), marking a new milestone in the Kingdom’s aviation sector.
“Welcome the launch of TIA, which will begin providing flight services for national and international travellers, further broadening Cambodia’s connection to the world,” he stated on his official social media platforms. The Prime Minister stressed that aviation is a vital driver of connectivity for tourism, business, diplomacy, and multi-purpose missions, and continues to serve as a major source of national revenue supported by policies to attract investment and strengthen international relations.
The inaugural flight to the new airport was operated by national flag carrier Air Cambodia (K6 611), followed shortly after by Singapore Airlines (SQ 155). Both were greeted with a ceremonial water salute. The welcoming ceremony was presided over by H.E. Dr. Mao Havannall, Minister in charge of the Secretariat of State for Civil Aviation, and attended by senior officials as well as the governors of Phnom Penh, Kandal, and Takeo.
Constructed at a cost of US$1.5 billion, TIA covers more than 2,600 hectares across Kandal Stung district in Kandal province and Bati district in Takeo province, about 20 kilometres from Phnom Penh. Classified as a 4F international airport, it is capable of handling long-haul aircraft such as the Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 747-800.
Operations at TIA began following the closure of Phnom Penh International Airport, also known as Pochentong Airport, at midnight on September 8, 2025. Korean Air operated the final departure from the old airport before the transition.
The official inauguration ceremony of Techo International Airport is scheduled for October 20, 2025, under the presidency of Prime Minister Hun Manet.
