Phnom Penh, May 29, 2025 – Cambodia is set to host the 2nd edition of the Badminton Asia Southeast Asia Regional Championships 2025, scheduled to take place from July 7 to 12 at the prestigious Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh.
The announcement was made by Mr. Chhit Samean, senior coach of the Cambodian National Badminton Athletes, who confirmed that the tournament will bring together athletes from five Southeast Asian countries: Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Brunei Darussalam, Myanmar, and Laos.
The regional championship will feature both singles and doubles events across three youth categories: Under-15 (U15), Under-17 (U17), and Under-23 (U23). This multi-category format aims to showcase emerging badminton talents in the region and offer young athletes a platform to gain international experience.
Coach Chhit Samean expressed confidence in the home team’s performance, stating that Cambodian players are well-prepared and aiming for a stronger medal haul this year.
In the inaugural edition of the tournament held in 2024, Cambodia earned an impressive 14 medals, underscoring the country’s growing stature in the regional badminton scene.
The upcoming tournament is expected to further promote the sport in Cambodia and reinforce the country’s commitment to developing young athletic talent across the region.
