Cambodia has emerged as a significant contributor to global peacekeeping efforts, with nearly 10,000 troops deployed on humanitarian missions under the United Nations’ blue beret banner. Prime Minister Hun Manet, speaking during the 30th anniversary of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces’ (RCAF) Brigade 70, highlighted the country’s contributions to 12 peace missions across 10 nations. This marks a remarkable transformation for a country that, just 30 years ago, welcomed UN peacekeepers to its own soil.

Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed deep gratitude for the sacrifices of Cambodian blue berets, who continue to serve in some of the world’s most challenging conflict zones. Currently, 627 Cambodian peacekeepers, including 130 women, are deployed in four countries, further cementing Cambodia’s role in maintaining global peace and stability.

The premier acknowledged the dedication of these troops, whose efforts not only preserve peace but also enhance Cambodia’s international standing. Their participation in missions across countries such as Lebanon, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic has earned them widespread recognition from global leaders for their courage and professionalism in conflict zones.

Over the past 18 years, Cambodia has sent a total of 9,465 troops, including 801 women, to countries like Sudan, Chad, Syria, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. These blue berets have not only ensured peace but have also provided critical support during times of crisis and disaster, contributing to Cambodia’s growing influence in the international community.

In addition to acknowledging these efforts, Premier Hun Manet emphasized the government’s commitment to the safety of its personnel, directing continuous monitoring of blue beret troops and, if necessary, taking proactive measures to ensure their protection in volatile regions.

Cambodia’s peacekeeping efforts symbolize its transformation from a war-torn nation to a global advocate for peace, development, and humanitarian assistance. Through these missions, Cambodia is helping build a safer world while enhancing its international prestige.
