In a significant move aimed at fostering harmony and compliance within the workplace, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training recently unveiled an innovative recognition program dubbed as the ‘One Enterprise as One Peaceful Community’ award. Set to become an annual event from May 1, 2025, this initiative seeks to reward enterprises that exemplify outstanding commitments to creating cohesive, safe, and compliant work environments.
Heng Sour, the minister, made the announcement on April 28, detailing that the award will initially feature three distinct prizes. Highlighting the rewards for exemplary compliance, the minister outlined that winners are to be bestowed with a distinctive award mascot and a certification of recognition. This certificate not only serves as a symbol of the enterprise’s commitment to fostering a peaceful work community but also acts as a valuable asset in establishing trust with business partners. In addition, winning enterprises will be granted a respite from regular inspections, ranging from one to three years, depending on their adherence to the set standards.
Criteria for the recognition involves a comprehensive assessment of several key factors. These include adherence to mandated working conditions, the cultivation of professional relationships, and compliance with occupational safety and health standards. Additionally, evaluators will consider an enterprise’s engagement with youth employment, its implementation of social security measures, contribution to labor productivity enhancement programs, and active participation in corporate social responsibility initiatives.
This initiative is poised to not only incentivize compliance and best practices among businesses but also to cultivate a culture of responsibility, safety, and community within the Cambodian labor market. By acknowledging and rewarding enterprises that go above and beyond to ensure a harmonious and safe working environment, the ‘One Enterprise as One Peaceful Community’ award aims to set a benchmark for others to aspire towards, thereby uplifting the overall standards of labor and vocational practices within the country.
